April Blogging Newsletter - A free SEO checklist, optimizing for holidays, and more!

Published about 1 year ago • 2 min read

Hi there Reader,

Alexa here from the Food Blogger Pro team with your monthly Blogging Newsletter –– a deep-dive into the latest news, strategies, and trends from the blogging/creator industries in this past month.

But this newsletter is a little special. Why? Not only are we going to be talking about ranking on Google, Pinterest’s Creator Fund, technical SEO, and the Feast Plugin… we're also sharing a bit about a new role we’re hiring for! 🤩

Let’s dive in:

1. We’re hiring! Content Creator & Editor @ Food Blogger Pro 🎉

We’re looking for a Content Creator & Editor to help us create, edit, and audit blog and course content for the Food Blogger Pro community. It’s a part-time role (20 hours/week), so it’s a great opportunity for people who are interested in supplementing their income or looking for a non-full-time gig!

Food Blogger Pro is a part of TinyBit, a ~15 person distributed company whose other businesses include Pinch of Yum, Clariti, and Curbly. We start, grow, and acquire online businesses that help people (or companies) get a tiny bit better, every day, forever. We are also a tight-knit team that loves food (obviously!) and prioritizes kindness and gratitude.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Plan, record, edit, and audit course content for the Food Blogger Pro Community.
  • Upload courses to our site.
  • Maintain a course auditing process so that our content stays up-to-date.
  • Help plan, outline, write, and proofread content about growing online food businesses for our blog with SEO best practices.

Sound like you’d be a good fit? Or maybe it sounds like the perfect role for someone you know? Find all of the details and the link to apply here.

The application deadline is Wednesday, May 3!

2. But like… how do you actually rank using SEO? 🤔

We talk a lot about SEO. You probably think a lot about SEO. But do you ever wish that you had some sort of step-by-step checklist that would help you go from idea to content that ranks?

🙋‍♀️

If that (⬆️) looks like you, you’re in luck! Our friends at Moz put together that very checklist (and it’s free!).

As you can see, it’s a pretty comprehensive list with actionable tips that can help your content show up higher in search results, which will (hopefully) lead to more clicks and traffic back to your site.

Check out the full checklist/article here!

3. Get paid to pin! 📌

Pinterest announced the expansion of its Creator Inclusion Fund this month, and eligible participants can now apply!

The Creator Inclusion Fund was started in 2021, and it helps elevate creators from marginalized communities through financial and educational support.

This first 6-week cycle of the Creator Inclusion Fund will be focused on sustainability, and you can learn more about it and apply here.

If you’re interested in some inside scoop, you can also check out this episode of the Simple Pin Podcast where Kate Ahl and Chantel Rodriguez discuss the fund!

4. Using WordPress? Check these common technical SEO issues. 🤖

Our SEO Expert Casey Markee is at it again, and this time he’s talking about some of the common technical SEO issues he sees on WordPress sites.

In the article, Casey outlines some priorities for WordPress users that will help your site stand out, build traffic, and be an easier site to use for your readers.

Included are tips about:

  • GA4
  • Core Web Vitals
  • Redirects
  • Link targets
  • Broken links
  • And more!

Check it out here.

5. Organize recipes by holiday with the Feast Plugin! 🎄

Do you use the Feast Plugin? If so, you may want to make use of their new Holidays taxonomy.

Secondary to your post categories, Holidays are a way to organize your posts and feature them on your site.

Optimizing for seasonality was one of Casey Markee’s top tips in our recent member-only Q&A with him (check out the highlights from that conversation in this podcast episode!), and this is a great way to do it!

Read more about how to use this new feature within the Feast Plugin here.

And that’s a wrap for this month’s Blogging Newsletter! 🎉

We hope you have a fab start to your May, and we’ll see ya next time! 👋
