November Blogging Newsletter - Email performance, even MORE Google updates, and more!

Published 5 months ago • 2 min read

Hi there Reader,

Welcome to your second-to-last Blogging Newsletter of the year from your friends at Food Blogger Pro. 😊

This one has TikTok news, Google updates, info on email performance, and more! Let’s dive in:

1. Yes, you did see more Google updates this month. 😵‍💫

Marking the fourth core algorithm update of 2023, Google released its November core update on November 2nd. This core update affected a different core system than the core update in October.

At the risk of sounding a bit like a broken record, we have some advice if you’ve been negatively impacted by this update –– this guide from Google is excellent and will help you uncover potential opportunities for improving your content.

You can read this Google Q&A for some more information on this core update and how core updates work.

Google also released a reviews update on November 8th. Updates to the reviews system (aka the algorithm that rewards high quality reviews across the web) will no longer be communicated publicly and will occur continuously.

If your review content has been negatively impacted, this resource has some tips on writing high quality reviews.

2. So long to the TikTok Creator Fund. 👋

TikTok announced that they will be shutting down their Creator Fund on December 16th.

The Creator Fund was a way to pay creators for videos that receive substantial views, but even so, creators have said that they earned “mere pennies” for these videos through the program.

If you’re worried about losing income from TikTok, there are plenty of other ways to monetize your blog. Find some ideas here!

P.S. If you’re interested in leveling-up your TikTok game in 2024, check out our recent Live Q&A replay with Brita Britnell from Food with Feeling! Non-Food Blogger Pro members can get access to this Q&A replay for just $19, and you’ll hear Brita’s answers to questions like:

  • What are some monetization options on TikTok?
  • What types of food content seem to get the most traction on TikTok?
  • How does optimizing for TikTok as a search engine differ from Google and SEO?
  • What should our main goal be on TikTok in 2024?
  • And more!

3. How do you know if your email strategy is even working? 📧

Sometimes, sending an email to your email list is like shouting into a void, and it’s tough to be sure that your strategy and messaging is actually effective if you’re not actually measuring anything.

But what exactly should you measure? That’s what our Email Marketing Expert, Allea, is covering in this article!

You’ll learn about your email marketing return on investment and the metrics that actually matter when you’re trying to determine the effectiveness of your email strategy.

Find the full post here.

P.S. If you use ConvertKit, check out Allea’s starter kit! It’s on sale until tomorrow, December 1.

4. Find trending audio on Instagram. 🎶

Trendy audio (either songs or clips) can help you get more eyeballs on your content, as using that audio can help get your video on the Reels feed or Instagram Explore page.

If you’re wondering where you can find trending audio, look no further! This resource from Buffer has some helpful tips and tricks.

They also cover the trendiest songs and sounds from 2023! It's a good read and reminder if your Reel performance has been less than stellar as of late.

Find the full article here.

And that’s a wrap on your November Blogging Newsletter. We hope you have a happy, healthy start to your December! ❄️
