October Blogging Newsletter - WordPress updates, Core Web Vitals, and more!

Published 6 months ago • 2 min read

Hi there Reader,

It’s the end of October… can you believe it?!

Not only does it mean that we’re a third of the way through Q4, it also means it’s time for a Blogging Newsletter from your friends at Food Blogger Pro. 😊

We send these newsletters at the end of each and every month, and in them, we recap some of the biggest and most notable news to come out of the blogging/content creation industry in the past month.

Without any further ado, let’s jump in:

1. Save big in November! 🎉

Interested in becoming a part of the best food blogging community on the internet (in our humble opinion 😉)? We’re running our best sale of the year from Monday, November 27 - Wednesday, November 29!

During this sale, you can get $100 off an annual membership to Food Blogger Pro (which includes monthly Q&As, exclusive access to Coaching Calls with Bjork, access to industry experts in our community forum, courses about strategy and tools, and more!). And anyone who signs up for a membership during this sale will get a bonus group call with Bjork about goal setting so that you can start your Food Blogger Pro membership on the best foot possible!

Click here to jump on the waiting list for this sale –– there’s no committment to get on the list; it’s just a way to be reminded once the sale goes live!

2. ANOTHER core update from Google… 📈

We’ve talked about Google updates for the past two months, and this month is no different! They launched another broad core update in October, and you can read more about it here.

It’s the third core update this year, and the previous one completed on September 7.

If you’ve noticed a dip in search traffic this month, this core update may be a culprit. Check out this guide from Google with questions to ask yourself to help you uncover potential opportunities for improving your content.

3. WordPress updates galore! 🖥️

Speaking of core updates… WordPress had one back in August, and this writeup from the NerdPress team is a great reacap of everything new and notable.

In this blog post, they cover:

  • How Synced and Unsynced Patterns work
  • Important changes to adding links to blog posts
  • New Blocks now available
  • And more!

Dive into the full post here.

P.S. Interested in WordPress, hosting, and all-things nerdy? The NerdPress team is hiring! Check out their job listing for their Updates Team Leader position here.

4. Improve your Core Web Vitals. ✅

Core Web Vitals are a report from Google that shows you how your pages perform in terms of loading performance, interactivity, and visual stability. According to Google, the better your Core Web Vitals, the better your user experience.

Yoast recently published a blog post about five different ways you can improve your Core Web Vitals, and it’s full of actionable insights and strategies to help you do just that. The fixes you can implement are:

  • Optimizing your images
  • Stabilizing page loading
  • Speeding up your server
  • Looking into critical CSS
  • Improving loading of third-party scripts

Even small updates can have a meaningful impact on user experience, so this post is a good one to review!

And if you’re interested in digging even further into Core Web Vitals and user experience, be sure to check out this episode of the Food Blogger Pro Podcast with our WordPress Support Expert Andrew Wilder.

And that’s a wrap on our Blogging Newsletter for October! We hope you have a great start to your November, and we’ll see ya next time. 🎃
